Richmond - Thurs 5th and Fri 6th Nov

I've been to Richmond, suburb of Melbourne. I've been to Richmond, suburb of Sydney and by the Blue Mountains. Now, I've also been to Richmond in Queensland. Richmond, Qld with a population of 800 is 488 km west of Townsville on the Flinders Highway. In other words, this means that Richmond is midway between Townsville and Mount Isa.

100 million years ago this area was an inland sea and was inhabited by marine dinosaurs. Namely the  Kronosaurus,

a giant meat eater with jaws 2 meters long and the Pliosaur, a plant and small creature eater. There was also a land based dinosaur known as the Minmi.

The Minmi was 2 - 3 meters in length and was heavily armoured. All this information is revealed at 'The Kronosaurus Korner', a museum in the centre of town. Richmond also boasts a lake,

ideal for fishing and water sports. Adjacent to this lake is picnic area, a water park for children and by the lake walk is a 'Bush Tucker Garden'. The town also features a reconstructed historic homestead that is interesting to browse through.

The 'Homestead' from the street.

On display, a refurbished, mobile, two stand shearing unit.

The stables.

A wagon for transporting baled wool.

Cobb and Co was here too.

Another feature unique to this area are the 'Moon Rocks'. These rocks are roundish boulders of various sizes. Fossils have been found inside some of these rocks.

Moon Rocks are displayed in Parks and Gardens all over town.

And something quite different, a home made steel hulled boat with an old car or truck engine complete with gearbox.
